Middlebury Open Chess Tournament September 26, 2009 (Saturday) ... in western Vermont Five or six rounds, time control “Game in 40” (forty minutes per player) At the Courtyard Marriott, 309 Court Street (Route 7), Middlebury, VT This excellent, small hotel is located on the eastern side of Route 7, one mile south-southeast of downtown Middlebury. Entry fees (credit/debit cards not accepted): • Novice players: $17 if paid in advance, or $22 at the door. • Most other players: $24 if paid in advance, or $29 at the door. • College chess team members: $10 if paid in advance, or $15 at the door. • Free to USCF masters; free to NH residents and a few other special guests. Prizes: $160-$100-$60-$40 for the top four places. Everyone else who plays at least four games will win a merchandise or service prize worth between $7 and $30, choosing from among chess and non-chess items. Trophies will be available, too. Starting times of the six rounds: (9:00), 11:00, 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, 7:00. Novice players must skip Round One! A player who doesn’t have a USCF rating above 1299, Vermont rating above 1399 or Canadian rating above 1299 is deemed to be a “novice” for purposes of this tournament.
Any expert
player may receive a full-point “bye” for Round One.
A player who has a Any player may skip any round, if proper notice is given to the tournament director. Most players will receive half a point for an unplayed round. At-door entrants should arrive at the playing site at least 30 minutes before the starting time of the round in which they intend to begin play. There are no membership requirements. Game results will be rated only for the Vermont rating system, which is similar to the USCF rating system.
