Amherst Scholastic Chess Tournament

Amherst is in the south central part of New Hampshire, just North West of
Nashua and southwest of Manchester.

Directions: Take Route 101 to the intersection of Route 101A, just outside
of Amherst.

Head east on 101A. Travel about one half mile on 101A to the intersection
with Rte 122/ Ponemah Rd.Turn left (North) onto Rte 122. Immediately turn
right (approx. 100 feet) onto Stearns Road. Travel 1.4 miles on Stearns
Road to a T-intersection with Boston Post Road. Turn left onto Boston Post
Road. Take your first right onto Cross Rd. The middle school parking lot
will be on your left.

Entry Fee: $5 pre-register (snail mail, E-mail, or telephone registration
information by 1/17 and pay $5 on Saturday), Register at the door $9.

Pre-registration saves you money and helps tournaments start on time.
Pre-registrations returned if unable to attend.

Times:  Registration: 8-8:45 am.

Late entries (after 8:45) may not be accepted until after the start of the
first round.
First round starts: 9:00am, subsequent rounds will start ASAP.
Awards ceremony at approx. 2:00pm
Format:   Swiss System, 4 rounds, Game/30
(Clocks with time delay will be set to 25 minutes with a 5 second delay)

Open to all students K-12 Trophies and medals awarded

Sections:  Based on a combination of grades and ratings

Novice: Grades K-5 and under 800

Intermediate: Grades K-8 and under 1000

Open: Grades K-12 and 1000 and over

*Note: Sections may be modified by tournament director depending on number
of entrants per section, to best fit the grades and ratings of the players.

Membership Dues:

Current United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership required:
Memberships may be purchased day of tournament.

USCF:  New or renewal: $19 (under age 15), $25 (ages 24 and under)

(With your annual membership, you will receive a USCF national rating and
subscription to USCF Chess Life magazine)

NHCA membership: student $6.00 (Highly encouraged, but not
required.includes subscription to NH Chess Journal)

Miscellaneous: No Smoking allowed.  Handicapped accessible.

Things to Bring: Money, Chess set and board, chess clock, notation pad,
pencils, and latest chess magazine or membership cards.
