2006 Chess Superfest

for American Youngsters

The Chess'n Math Association Canada's National Scholastic Chess Association, organized the first ChessFest in 2005. Players from Canada and the United States took part. We got so much positive feedback that we decided to make this an annual event. This year we are making a special effort to attract a more international field.

Visit our National Capital and play chess against top youngsters from Canada, the U.S. and other countries!

Prices are in Canadian dollars. Based on the exchange rate on March 24, 2006, 1 U.S. dollar = $1.15 Canadian. Therefore an entry fee of $45 Canadian works out to about $40 U.S. ($50 Canadian is about $43.50 U.S.). You can pay with a U.S. dollar check. If you pay with a credit card, it will be charged in Canadian dollars and the credit card company will do the conversion.

ELIGIBILITY: All American youngsters who were in Kindergarten to grade 12 in the 2005-2006 school year are eligible to take part.
U.S. citizens do not require a passport to enter Canada

SYSTEM: 13 Sections from Kindergarten to grade 12. 6-round swiss system in each section.

SCHEDULE:
Friday Aug 18: Round 1 - 7 p.m.
Saturday Aug. 19: Round 2 - 10 a.m.; Round 3 - 2 p.m.; Round 4 - 6 p.m.
Sunday Aug 20: Round 5 - 9 a.m.; Round 6 - 1 p.m. Awards Ceremony 4:30 p.m.

TIME CONTROL: 90 minutes + 5 second increment per player for the game. Clocks and sets are supplied.

LODGING: Lodging is available at the Delta Hotel. This is a great hotel located in downtown Ottawa. They also have a 2-story indoor waterslide! We have special rates of $99 plus tax (two double beds - maximum 4 people to a room). You must mention the Chess Tournament and quote Reservation code: GGCNMA. These rates are guaranteed to June 28th. After that date it will depend on availability. To reserve call 1-800-268-1133. ENTRY FEE: $45 if paid by June 28, 2006. $50 between June 29 and July 31. $60 between Aug 1 and Aug 15. Those who register after August 15, 2006 will be charged $75.

PRIZES: Trophies to the top 5 in each grade. Plus 1st place in each grade receives a $100 gift certificate, 2nd place in each grade receives a gift certificate for $50 while 3rd, 4th and 5th place in each grade receives a $20 gift certificate. The certificates will be redeemable at Strategy Games and they will have a booth on site. Winners can also redeem tham at one of the Strategy Game stores in Canada: www.strategygames.ca
